Learn more about the Street Cinema team and what we doRyan Ishii
President, CEO, and Film Director Ryan Ishii is an American film director, born in Virginia and raised on O’ahu, to an Italian/Dutch mother and a Japanese father. He has fraternal twin sisters, both of whom have helped over the years either in front of, or behind the camera. He got his start reading scripts for former Tri Star/Columbia President Chris Lee, and subsequently worked with “Usual Suspects” & “X-Men” Director Bryan Singer on a music video entitled “Hip Hop Felons”. In 2008, Ishii received his MFA from USC’s School of Cinematic arts, where he and fellow collaborator Zeus Quijano Jr. won 1st Place in the American Film & Video Festival for Point of Entry, an immigration documentary they captured on 16mm. Currently residing on O’ahu, Ishii enjoys immersing himself in the visual arts. Outside of working in the commercial world, notable projects on island include a documentary on students traveling to Kaho’olawe, a year spent creating content at Kuhio Park Terrace, and his most recent collaboration with the Hawaii Opera Theater. While not focusing on craft, he can be found either on the golf course or in the ocean. His main influences are films & hip hop of the 90’s, studying international painting and photography, and advice/inspiration from his peers throughout his 20-year career. He has traveled extensively to Europe, Asia, Africa, and Central America, and hopes to visit Iceland someday soon.
Jason Umino
Music Producer, Soundtrack Director, Sound Designer, and CMO Jason Umino is a Honolulu-based electronic music producer, sound designer, and educator (under the pseudonym, Wunderfish) . He has been producing soundtracks for Street Cinema since its inception in 2005, and has been a “bedroom music artist” since the early 90s after buying his first analog synthesizer. While he enjoys a wide variety of music, his heroes hail from the golden age of electronic music in the 80s and 90s: Vince Clarke (Erasure, Yaz, Depeche Mode), Orbital, Underworld, Air, Leftfield, just to name a few. Cinematically, he is particularly influenced by Zbigniew Preisner, Eric Serra, and Danny Elfman. He left the “daily grind” in order to vagabond and focus on music full-time. He completed the music producers certificate program with honors and DJ extensive course at the renowned Dubspot Music School in New York City. When not making music, he teaches Hawaii’s first formal electronic music production music technology classes at Computational Thinkers.
